Wisdom Teeth Removal
Third molars, often referred to as wisdom teeth, are the last of your adult set of teeth to come in. Even if your wisdom teeth are completely erupted, they are still likely negatively affecting your oral environment. Rarely, these teeth erupt harmoniously with the oral environment.
However, most people have issues with them erupting (breaking through the gum). They can become trapped beneath the gums or underneath the bone. We call these impacted.
Leaving wisdom teeth in the mouth oftentimes leads to poor oral hygiene in those areas of the mouth, tooth decay, and malocclusion. These problems can then lead to massive infections and cysts.
Why Extractions Are Sometimes Needed

When wisdom teeth become impacted, some patients just end up living with it as long as it causes no problems.
However, sometimes that impaction can cause severe pain when chewing, speaking, and other daily activities.
In either of these instances, the issues can lead to infection, cavities, gum disease, or other oral health complications. This is why we recommend extraction because it is the best treatment to protect against future health implications.
As we age, the teeth become more difficult to remove. This is why it is best to preventatively remove them when we are young so that we prevent disease as well as promote better healing.
